  3. discussed test format: 15 multiple choice = 15 points, 18 open ended = 60 points. 80 minutes in length. The material covered on the test includes the following: from unit 2 (notes pages 30-35, HW pages 24-26), and unit 3 (all).
  4. self-directed study: I recommended a method of studying for the test where the student turns to an example in their notes, takes a blank sheet of paper and covers up the work for the example, exposing just the problem itself. The student works out the example on the sheet of paper, and then compares their work to that which is under the paper. In this way, the student works to check and clarify their understanding.

objective: SW use the design recipe to write functions.

  2. Preview of game files. Click here, then click RUN.
    Did the game do anything? Close the game.
    Notice all of the "define" statements in the code? We need to write definitions that will tell the characters what to do in the game. This is why we have to practice writing functions.
  3. Review how we used the design recipe to write functions last week. See the "green triangle" example.
  4. Use this format as a guide to writing the function for the purple-star function.
    The rest of this sheet is for homework.
  5. Animation in games is a lot like a flip-book.
    The class helps define the function rocket-height that makes the rocket fly.

  • Students will grab laptops and login while they complete a warmup on paper. Warmup reviews writing contracts for shapes.
  • Teacher will review class procedures -- downloading assignments, completing with snip, submitting to TurnItIn.com.
  • Students will have 15-20 minutes to complete previous assignments in class and submit to TurnItIn.com.
    The following should be complete:
    • Circles of evaluation to CODE from 9/18
    • Unit 2 Assignment B from 9/19
    • Unit 2 Assignment C from 9/19
  • Teacher will introduce definitions.

Specifically, we are logging in to our Office365 accounts, downloading assignments from the Wiki, using the "snipping tool" to capture screenshots of work, and submitting assignments by email.

    • username is your NASD username@nasdstudent.org

    • Pin the "snipping tool" to taskbar
